Popular for the presence of one of the largest industrial hubs in South Asia, Oragadam is set to have a new attraction. Archaeologists have discovered potsherds and stone tools used in the past at Vadakkuppattu village near Oragadam. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will begin the excavation of the site to unravel its archaeological significance.
Mud bricks, potsherds, stone artifacts, and tools starting from the megalithic period till the 14th century were discovered in the village. The stone tools identified from the site are those used in the kitchen and for hunting. The excavation of the area, which could date back to more than 3,000 years, will ascertain whether there was cultural continuity from the megalithic to the medieval period.
This discovery follows the successful excavation at Keezhadi in south Tamil Nadu which has been driving thousands of visitors from all over Tamil Nadu and even from outside the state to visit the location.
