Traveling to and from Oragadam will be a breeze in the coming years as the TN government plans to carry out feasibility studies to extend three corridors of metro rail Phase-2, which includes a line to Parandur via Sriperumbudur. The extension of Corridor 4, which will be approximately 50 km will connect Parandur to Poonamalllee. Chennai’s second greenfield airport is to come at Parandur. A consultant will be finalized to conduct a detailed feasibility study by the end of the year.
Chennai’s most preferred neighborhood
Over the last few years, Oragadam has grown from being one of the biggest automobile hubs into a multi-faceted industrial zone. Twenty-two Fortune 500 companies have set up units in the Sriperumbudur – Oragadam belt. This rise has led to a large influx of white collared workforce from different parts of the country and also a large number of expats, particularly from South Korea and Japan. One residential segment that meets all their needs is Hiranandani Parks, Oragadam. The 360-acre township houses luxury 2.5 & 3 BHK apartments and ready-to-register premium plots for those who wish to build their own homes. Well connected by road and rail, the township is located between Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road and National Highway 4. It is just an hour’s drive from the Chennai International airport and half an hour’s drive from the proposed international airport that is likely to come up at Parandur.
Metro extension to provide connectivity
The extension of Metro Corridor 4 (from Poonamalle to Parandur) will not only enhance connectivity to the upcoming Chennai’s second airport at Parandur but will also give a fillip to the setting up of ancillary and support industries in the corridor. The Sriperumbudur – Oragadam industrial belt is located very close to the airport. The study was undertaken by keeping in mind the transit-oriented development concepts across key corridors like in Delhi and Ahmedabad and international models like that of Curitiba in Brazil and Portland, USA.
